Post 8: January 29,30

Bio:  What is ecology and explain the 5 levels of organization.  (pp373-374)

A and P:  What is circulatory shock?  Also explain briefly the 5 types of shock.  (p 382)

Med Tech:  Read the article at: http://www.livescience.com/49610-scientists-unboil-egg.html and give a brief summary.  Also find one other article that supports the information found in this one.

Physics:  Explain each of the 4 Laws of Thermodynamics.

Astronomy:  Using the information found at: http://www.space.com/22437-main-sequence-stars.html describe the life cycle of a main sequence star.

Zoology:  Begin your research on your protozoan disease by finding 3 things about it and describing them here.

Post 7: Jan 27,28

Biology: Explain the geologic time scale and each of the 3 basic units of time that it consists of.  Also, explain what do the terms paleozoic, mesozoic and cenozoic mean? (p345)

A and P: Explain each of the 5 functions of the peripheral circulation.  (p356)

Med Tech:  Explain why it is important to use a PET/CT fusion rather than one or the other alone.

Physics:  Read the "Why it Matters" on p 346-347, summarize how a refrigerator operates.

Astronomy:  Google HR Diagram and explain what it is and how it can be used to describe stars.

Zoology:  Give a brief explanation of each of the types of animal-like protists: Sarcodinians, Zooflagellates, Ciliaphorans, Sporzoans.

Biology:  What is a fossil and how can they be used to support the theory of evolution?  Also, explain the 5 ways that they can form.  (p338)

A and P:  Explain 3 of the drugs that can be used to treat heart disease and explain how it can be prevented in the first place.  (p347)

Med Tech:  Are there other things than just cancer that can show up on a PET scan?  What are some of the false positives/negatives that can occur?

Physics:  Explain the relationships between work and heat as well as what the terms system and environment refer to.

Astronomy:  Explain 3 things that you have learned about your constellation to this point.

Zoology:  According to the notes under "Animal like protists", explain each of the 4 major types of protists.

Biology:  List and explain 5 traits that can be passed down from generation to generation.

A and P:  Explain the first and second heart sounds as well as what a murmur is.  Also, explain what the terms cardiac output, stroke volume and heart rate mean.

Med Tech:  What are some of the components of a PET scan that are the same, and different from a CT?

Physics:  Describe the entropy and internal energy of molecules in a substance as they move from solid to gas.

Astronomy:  What is a constellation?  Do you know of any constellations, if not google one and find it's legend.  Write it down here.

Zoology:  Why is it important to classify organisms?  Explain 3 reasons for doing this.

Physics:  Explain how you would define temperature and internal energy.  p299.

Astronomy:  What is astronomy and why is it important to study?  Why can we not see everything in space?

Zoology:  Explain each of the 5 different types of species specific behaviors that are outlined in your notes.  (The link is online)

Biology:  Explain the 4 ways that populations can become isolated as described on pp 324-326.

A and P:  Explain each of the 4 functions of your heart that are listed on p 324.

Med Tech:  Which contrast/dye(s) is/are used in PET scanning?  Why?

Physics:  Explain the relationship between pressure, volume and temperature with respect to the ideal gas law.

Astronomy:  Do a google search on telescopes.  Give a brief explanation of the different types.

Zoology:  Explain the function and typical locations of each of the following:  epithelial tissue, muscular tissue, nervous tissue and connective tissue.

Biology:  Explain each of the 5 conditions needed for a population to stay in equilibrium.  See page 320.

A and P:  Describe the pathway of the blood throughout the body and heart as we discussed last class.

Med Tech:  Briefly explain how a PET scan works, what it is?

Physics:  Explain the principle of bouyancy and how you can determine the identity of a material using this principle.

Astronomy:  Describe 3 of the events or people you have chosen for your timeline so far.

Zoology:  Explain 5 characteristics that separate animals from other organisms as we discussed in class last time.  The notes are linked to our class website if needed.

Biology:  Describe 3 evidences used to support the theory of evolution as found on pages 292-296 of your book.

A and P:  Describe each of the 3 processes that the body uses to prevent blood loss when a blood vessel is damaged.  See pages 311-312.

Med Tech:  Google search for differences between CT and PET scans.  Explain a couple of the major differences between the two.

Physics:  Summarize what is being discussed on pp 283-284 of your text - Take It Further: Properties of Gases.

Astronomy:  Identify 5 main discoveries or ideas that are key, in your mind, to an understanding of the universe.

Zoology:  What are the main kingdoms into which life is divided?  Which one is the dominant form of life and why?
